Porch Posts, Newels and Balusters

Craftsmanship, usually associated with the past, is still available to you today through porch posts, newels, and balusters from Simmonds Woodturning. All our exterior porch posts, newels, and balusters are handcrafted from kiln dried furniture grade materials (no fingerjoints), laminated with a waterproof, type III exterior grade adhesive using full length hand picked stock. The use of stable materials and multiple laminations provide permanence and strength preventing any warping or twisting of the piece. Each porch post, newel and baluster is individually hand turned to your pattern requirements and expertly sanded ready to be primed and painted. All end grain surfaces, tops and bottoms are sealed with a weather resistant sealant before shipping.

Porch posts have a standard top block (unturned) of 14” and bottom block (unturned) area is standard at 38” or 44” depending on if a railing is to be used and local building codes. Newels have a standard top pattern of 7" with a top block (unturned) of 7.5”,
centre turned area of 18" and the bottom block (unturned) of 11” or 23” depending on your application.

Weather Protection

To add lasting protection against weather damage, all the ends (tops and bottoms) of our exterior pieces are sealed with the best water sealant on the market, Thompson's Water Seal before they are crated and shipped to you. |
Millwork
Millworking of your pieces is available. For Porch Posts an additional $ 25.00 per full piece applies.
For Newels an additional $12.50 per full piece applies.
For Balusters an additional $ 7.50 per full piece applies.
